From the Forest to your Front Door

WoodArtisan Custom Cabinetry by Hardwood Interiors & Design is a handcrafted, solid cabinet that is still built the old-fashioned way in our woodworking shop in Oakland, MD.

 Cabinet Construction

It’s all in the details.

  •  Box Construction: We begin with the cabinet box which is constructed from 3/4” sides and 1/2” backs, tops and bottoms for a real structurally strong base. We use a top-quality veneer core hardwood plywood interior box which will hold up for generations of use.

  • Face Frames: The face frame determines how the doors and drawers fit your cabinetry. Our face frames are composed of solid hardwood and are double doweled then glued for a solid construction. Decorative elements such as beaded frames are also available to complete the custom look.

  • Cabinet Doors: The doors must be beautiful to the eye, but most also be built to perform for the long-term. Each door has traditional mortise and tenon joinery to make sure that we have strong joints. To avoid problems from expansion and contraction in the door we place silicon rubber balls inside the frame of the cabinet door to cushion the panel as it expands and contracts, which keeps the panel from moving out of place. We also go one extra step that is virtually unknown to the industry - pre-staining panels before assembly to allow for panel contraction without the worry of unstained wood showing on the out panel.

  • Drawer Boxes: The sturdy 5/8” solid hardwood drawer sides and 1/2” bottom are built with dovetail construction (which allows for the most storage capacity) on all four corners to ensure they will hold up to rigorous daily use. We use high-quality hardware to ensure a smooth open and close. We use undermount drawer slides that include full-extension and soft-closure by Blumotion.
